About
Hey there, I’m Porter, that’s me (← ^). I’m a therapist, advocate for equity, lifelong learner, and collaborator.
I provide therapy that meets you where you’re at and makes you feel more at home within yourself. I offer short-term and long-term care — whether you’re just starting out or continuing your journey of caring for your mental and emotional self. All parts of who you are and what you’ve experienced along the way are very welcome here.
An important step in doing personal work is finding a therapist that is right for you. Finding someone who can not only hold space for you, but who can also know when it’s okay to challenge old narratives that are no longer working for the life that you’re wanting to grow into.
Our work together can offer you a deeper ability to see yourself anew. Our work will include understanding your patterns with greater clarity, listening more closely to innate wisdom, and creating a version of your life that feels more grounded, attuned, balanced, and aligned.

Some therapists take a backseat approach to this work, rarely offering their perspective or offering material that lives inside the therapy room. Evidence shows that the connection being developed between client and therapist is a leading factor in therapy’s success.
My work is grounded in collaboration and consent, drawing on your own concealed wisdom and insight. I believe therapy is most meaningful when we work together with curiosity, honesty, and a willingness to explore what may be difficult to carry and experience on your own.
I use a trauma-informed lens, adapting parts work (IFS), attachment theory, emotionally-focused therapy (EFT), existentialism, and somatic modalities.
My communication style is compassionate, direct, curious, nonjudgmental, and forward-thinking. I’ll meet you exactly where you are while also inviting you to consider what might be possible beyond the here and now.

I integrate an equity and anti-oppressive ethos into my work with clients, as we are all impacted by systems larger than our immediate communities. Sometimes that means bringing positionality and identity into the therapeutic space; to stay curious, explore, unpack, and better understand how we relate to one another. A common goal is to both learn and (un)learn ways that we have moved through the world - identifying aspects that no longer serve us and finding more useful ways of existing. We can learn how to be more responsive and integrated, rather than reactive and segmented.
Caring for oneself takes time and resources. I offer a limited number of weekly sliding scale spots and am always happy to discuss the financial aspect of committing to this type of self-care work.

I have a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University, with a specialized focus in multicultural studies. I graduated from the University of Washington in 2004, receiving a Bachelor's degree in race, ethnicity, and gender studies.
Before working exclusively in the mental health field, I worked for an employee assistance program (EAP), helping link clients with experienced clinicians. That work catalyzed my passion for providing comprehensive culturally-responsive care. It began to show me the inner workings of how to make successful and long lasting relational connections in the therapeutic space.
Prior to this time, I worked with a diverse cross section of people in restaurants, hospitals, outdoor education, and customer relations of all kinds. My jack-of-all-trades background serves me well in the counseling realm. And being QTBIPOC, mixed, and witnessing life at the margins, I’m aptly ready and uniquely positioned to see into the liminal space of growth and healing that you seek.

There isn’t one set amount of time therapy takes because it depends on a number of factors. What you’re hoping to change, how long you’ve been dealing with it, and what we discover along the way are all aspects to consider.
Some people notice meaningful changes within a few sessions, while others benefit from working together for several months or longer. We’ll regularly check in about how things are going and whether therapy is still meeting your needs and heading toward your goals. The plan isn’t to keep you in therapy indefinitely — it’s to help you get to a point where you feel equipped to manage things on your own, or where we mutually decide that continuing is useful.

I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for weekly therapy sessions. I ask clients to consider their budget, access to wealth and resources, and to envision a figure that can be sustained on a weekly basis. I typically offer two different sliding scale rates beyond my full rate of $155 (for individual). My philosophy regarding financial accessibility is to make therapy as affordable as possible while also being able to maintain as a small business owner.

The space I hold is ripe for collaboration, honesty, truth-telling, and made for experiences to be fully felt. I show up ready to guide, to tend, to actively listen, and to help generate ideas for the future version of self that you’re continually stepping into.
Ultimately, this work is generative and sometimes even fun as we collectively work toward your personalized goals.
